BOSTON – The Northeastern women's basketball team (16-11, 11-5 CAA) used a big 23-6 first quarter to take down Hampton (10-16, 7-9 CAA),79-46, on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.

With the victory, Northeastern has won six straight, and move into a tie for second place in the CAA standings. The 11 CAA wins for the Huskies also marks the most for the program since the 2017-18 season.

Braxton paced the Huskies with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Northeastern also got double-digit performances from junior
Deja Bristol with 16 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double the season, senior
Jaelyn Batts had 13 points and five rebounds, and Boruta celebrated her senior day in style with 11 points (ties career-high) on perfect 4-of-4 shooting.
- Northeastern got off to a quick start in the first, with a 4-2 lead after a layup from Batts.
- Â The scoring continued with Northeastern taking control with a 15-0 run, that was capped off by a three-pointer by Boruta to give the Huskies a 17-2 lead at the 2:58 mark.
- The Huskies held Hampton scoreless for over six minutes in the frame, until the Lady Pirates tallied a jumper with 52 seconds left.
- Northeastern shot 60% (9-of-15) overall, and 100% (2-of-2) from three to take a dominating 23-6 lead into the second.
- Hampton responded with four quick points to start the second, but the Huskies remained in control after free throws by Bristol gave Northeastern a 25-10 lead at the seven-minute mark.
- Both teams traded buckets for the remainder of the stanza, as Hampton trimmed the deficit to 11 after another 4-0 run (28-17) with 3:31 to go.
- Bristol tallied the last five points for the Huskies to give Northeastern a 33-21 lead at halftime. The junior was stellar with seven points and rebounds in the frame.
- The Lady Pirates tallied four straight points to start the second half to cut Northeastern's advantage to 33-25 at the 7:53 mark, but free throws by Batts ballooned the lead back up to double-digits right away.
- The Huskies went on a 13-0 run midway through the quarter, that was dominant from beyond the arc. Braxton kicked off the run with a three at the 6:10 mark, and then Anna followed with back-to-back buckets from three to give Northeastern a 46-29 lead.
- Braxton and Batts closed the run with a layup and jumper to give the Huskies a 50-29 advantage at the 2:54 mark.
- Northeastern didn't look back in the remainder of the third after jumpers by Braxton and junior Halle Idowu in the last minute gave the Huskies a 59-34 lead heading into the fourth.
- The Huskies led by 20+ points for more than half of the fourth quarter, and the team took its biggest lead of the day at 77-44 after buckets from freshman Ariana Webb and Oralye Kiefer down the stretch to help secure the victory.
- Northeastern edged Hampton in points off turnovers (22-18), paint points (24-20), second chance points (12-5), fast break points (20-6), and bench points (28-23).
The Huskies will hit the road to face Charleston on Thursday, March 2. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm, and can be watched on FloHoops.
