Huskies Set To Open Beanpot Against Boston University

Boston, Mass. - The RV/20 Northeastern Men's Ice Hockey team is set to face No. 3 Boston University in the opening round of the 2023 Beanpot tournament at TD Garden.

The game is slated for 8:00 p.m. and all the action can be seen on NESN.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. DOG-EAT-DOG: This year's Beanpot semifinal game will be the 247th meeting of Northeastern and BU all-time, and the 46th time they'll meet in the tournament. It's the fifth straight time the two teams will match up at the Beanpot.
  2. SENIORITY RULES: Senior captain Aidan McDonough is painting his name across the Hockey East leader board, leading in goals (12) and power-play goals (5). He ranks second in points per game (1.41), is third in points (24) and is tied for second with a +18 rating. His 17 goals this season are tied for third in the country. McDonough is the active career leader in NCAA in goals (63) and power-play goals (28). His career 118 points and 10 game winners are second among all active players. Graduate student Liam Walsh has made big strides for the Huskies since missing the first two months of the season due to injury. As the only Husky holding a current point streak, Walsh has tallied three goals and four assists for seven points in the last six games.
  3. LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies' most recent outings at Matthews Arena resulted in a split week as they claimed a 2-1 victory over Boston College on Tuesday night, but fell short, 4-3, in overtime to UConn on Friday evening. Entering the week, Northeastern holds the best save percentage in the conference at .944 and the best penalty kill percentage at .884. Northeastern has killed off 85-of-100 penalties this season.
