Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hofstra Tops Northeastern, 72-53

BOSTON – Hofstra (18-8, 11-2) received 18 points from Tyler Thomas and held the Northeastern men's basketball team (8-15, 4-8) to a 29% night from the field en route to a 72-53 win over the Huskies on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena.

Jahmyl Telfort led the Huskies with 16 points on 5-of-13 overall (6-of-6 FT), while Northeastern finished the evening 17-of-58 from the floor and 7-of-22 from deep.

Hofstra, which outscored NU 34-12 in the paint and committed just five turnovers, was 30-of-63 overall and 6-of-21 from long range on the night. Aaron Estrada got off to a slow start before finishing with 13 points and five assists to join Thomas in double figures, while Jaquan Carlos added 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

• Telfort was a workhorse for the Huskies in the first half, finishing with 14 points on 5-of-8 from the floor to keep Northeastern in it at the break, 37-29.

• After the Pride held a seven-point lead with 12:44 until half, NU used a 10-2 run to take its first lead of the night with 8:17 left. Northeastern finished the half 9-of-27 overall and 3-of-10 from deep.

• Hofstra, meanwhile, received 14 points from Thomas in the opening half while Estrada got going late, finishing with eight first half points for a Pride team that shot 45% overall and 4-of-14 from three.

• After Joe Pridgen drilled a three to bring the Huskies within six early in the second half, the Pride took back control of the game the rest of the way, not letting Northeastern come within more than nine the rest of the way before using a 12-4 run over six minutes to put the game out of reach.

The Huskies will head out on the road this weekend for a pair, beginning on Saturday night at UNCW. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FloHoops.
