BOSTON – The Northeastern women's basketball team (11-11, 6-5 CAA) hit seven of its final eight shots, and 9-of-13 overall in the final frame as it defeated Stony Brook (13-9, 7-4 CAA), 68-63 on Thursday night at the Cabot Center.Â

Derin Erdogan scored 10 of her 19 points in the fourth, as sophomore
Gemima Motema, who also had 19 points, tallied nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in the fourth.

Jaelyn Batts pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds in the effort and added four assists.
- After Erdogan made a jumper 45 seconds in to open the scoring, it became a struggle for both teams offensively as it was tied at two over three minutes in.
- Stony Brook would heat up and take an 8-4 lead with under five minutes to go in the first, but NU would score four in a row to tie.Â
- The Seawolves responded with six straight to go up 14-8 with 2:22 left, and would eventually take a 16-12 lead into the second quarter. The Huskies shot 6-of-14 from the floor in the first and held Stony Brook to 8-of 23 shooting overall, including 0-9 shooting from three.
- Batts beat the shot clock with a shot clock-beating layup to start the second and cut the deficit to 16-14.
- The Seawolves would finally hit from deep as they drained back-to-back threes to go up 24-16 at the midway point of the quarter.
- Erdogan would drill the Huskies first three a few minutes later and Motema would get a steal and layup to cut the deficit to 24-21 with 2:21 left.
- After the teams traded buckets, junior Deja Bristol would get a steal and Motema would get another fast break layup to cut the deficit to 26-25, but SBU immediately hit another three to extend the lead back to four.
- Bristol would respond with a layup, but the Seawolves beat the buzzer with a lay-up to take a 31-27 lead into the half. Bristol and Motema each had six at the break to lead, while Batts collected a season-high eight rebounds in the first half alone.
- Northeastern shot 13-of-28 from the field, while holding Stony Brook to 14-of-37 shooting in the first half.
- Motema and graduate student JaMiya Braxton hit transition layups to tie the game at 31 early in the third, and junior Halle Idowu hit a layup with 7:06 left to give the Huskies their first lead since 2-0.
- Stony Brook responded with a 6-0 run to go back up 37-33, but Erdogan hit back-to-back shots to tie it back up and force the visitors to call timeout with 3:36 left in the third.
- Braxton then drained a three and Motema scored in transition to make it a 9-0 run and give NU a game-best five-point lead, 42-37, with just under three minutes to go.
- SBU scored five-straight to tie it up, but Batts' got her 15th rebound of the game on an offensive board and put it back up to beat the buzzer and give NU a 44-42 lead after three.
- Erdogan hit a three to open the fourth and then made a floater to make it a game-best seven-point lead, at 49-42, two minutes into the frame.
- Stony Brook responded with a 5-0 run, that the Huskies matched with four straight of their own. After a three by the visitors cut the NU lead to 53-50, Erdogan got a layup and was fouled. Her free throw gave the hosts a 56-50 lead with 4:19 left.
- Motema then got back-to-back buckets in transition to put the Huskies up 60-50 with 3:37 remaining.
- A few minutes later, the Seawolves responded with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 62-59.
- Sophomore Asha Parker hit a layup with 33 seconds left to push the lead back to 64-59 and force the visitors to take a timeout.
- After a Stony Brook three a pair of Northeastern free throws, the Seawolves split a pair of free throws with 1.3 seconds left to cut the deficit to 66-63.
- Parker would get fouled on the inbounds with 0.7 left and hit both free throws to ultimately seal the win.
- Northeastern dominated points in the paint (42-28), and capitalized on Stony Brook's miscues with 20 points off turnovers.Â
The Huskies continue the run of CAA newcomers when they head to Hampton for a 2 pm tip-off on Sunday, February 12.
