BROOKLINE, Mass. – In its first game against a ranked opponent this season, Northeastern (13-4) took down No. 16/17 Boston College (14-4) by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
A solid start from right-hander
Jake Gigliotti, and an offensive effort led by a three-run home run from
Alex Lane propelled the Huskies to a midweek victory over the Eagles for the first time since 2019.
- With back to back one-out hits from Danny Crossen and Alex Lane, and a walk to Mike Sirota, the Huskies loaded the bases in the bottom of the first. Carmelo Musacchia hit a deep fly ball to center field, scoring Crossen from third on the sac-fly to make it 1-0.
- The Huskies added two more in the second inning on an RBI double from Cam Maldonado and an RBI ground-out from Crossen, scoring Justin Bosland and Gregory Bozzo to make it 3-0.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Cam Maldonado hit a leadoff single, and after stealing second, ran to third on a Danny Crossen single.
- The next batter, Alex Lane, took the first pitch he saw and drove it to left center field, hitting the scoreboard for his seventh homer of the season, extending NU's lead to 6-0.
- The Eagles were able plate two runs in response in the top of the sixth, loading the bases and getting an RBI walk and hit-by-pitch.
- Jake Gigliotti (W, 3-0) picked up his third win of the season, his second in as many starts, working five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just three hits and one walk, and struck out four.
- The bullpen held the Eagles to just two runs in the final four innings, with Patrick Harrington (0.2 innings), Nick Davis (1.1 innings) and Griffin Young (2.0 innings) finishing out the contest without allowing another hit. Davis struck out one batter in his inning and a third of work, while Young struck out three.
- It's the first Northeastern baseball victory over Boston College since March 19, 2019 when the Huskies took a 4-2 victory from the Eagles at home. BC had won the four last meetings.
- Northeastern is now 1-0 when playing opponents ranked in the top 25 of the national polls. Northeastern went 5-3 against ranked opponents in 2022.
