BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern Huskies (15-4) picked up another home win on Friday afternoon, defeating the Hartford Hawks (1-10) by a score of 14-0 at Friedman Diamond.
In his sixth straight start,
Wyatt Scotti was awarded the win, and is now 6-0 on the season. Scotti pitched five perfect innings to begin the game before allowing a hit in the sixth. Offensively, the Huskies exploded in the fifth inning, led by
Danny Crossen (3-for-3, 1 RBI),
Tyler MacGregor (3-for-4, HR),
Carmelo Musacchia (2-for-4, HR), and
Harrison Feinberg (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI).
- Scotti's day ended after six innings of scoreless baseball, leading to the Huskies' third shut out with him as the starter. Scotti retired eight batters via strikeout, a season high for the junior.
- The Huskies struck first in the bottom of the third, with runners on the corners and two outs – Alex Lane stepped in and hit an RBI single deep to the short stop, allowing Danny Crossen to score from third to give Northeastern a 1-0 lead.
- NU plated seven runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open at an 8-0 lead.
- With runners on the corners, Danny Crossen hit a sacrifice fly to score Luke Beckstein from third. The next batter, Tyler MacGregor, hit an RBI single through the right side to score Cam Maldonado.
- A blooped fly ball to shallow left field was dropped, allowing Justin Bosland to reach with the bases loaded, and Tyler MacGregor to score, representing NU's fourth run of the contest.
- The next batter was Harrison Feinberg, who drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-0.
- A ground-rule double from catcher Gregory Bozzo drove in two more runs, followed by an RBI infield ground-out by Beckstein to give the Huskies an 8-0 lead after five.
- NU tacked on three more in the seventh on homers from MacGregor and Carmelo Musacchia. MacGregor's came with a runner on, his fifth of the season, and Musacchia's was a solo shot tucked under the left center field scoreboard, his first collegiate home run.
- In the eighth, Harrison Feinberg joined the home run parade with his fourth of the season, sending one over the left field bullpen, scoring Jack Doyle and Alex Lane to make the game 14-0.
- In total, the Northeastern pitching staff allowed just two hits, three walks, and struck out 13 batters.
- Carson Walsh made his collegiate debut in the seventh inning, and kept Hartford scoreless despite allowing two walks. He notched his first career K in the inning.
- In the eighth it was Will Jones making another appearance, allowing one hit and one walk but striking out one batter and getting out of the inning.
- Hayden Smith took the mound for the final inning, setting a new career high in strikeouts as he struck out the side on just 12 pitches.
- It was the eighth game of the season where the Huskies posted double-digits. Northeastern is 8-0 this season when reaching double digit runs.
The two teams will take Saturday off and continue the series on Sunday, March 26th with a double header at Friedman Diamond, with game one starting at 12 p.m. on FloBaseball.
