Hearthstone Squad Clinches Three Top-Eight Finishes, Earn National Finals Appearances

BOSTON - Three members of the Northeastern Hearthstone squad have earned top-eight finishes in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) 1v1 qualifying round, and have a chance to compete for a national title on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19.

Matthew "RockedYou" Rock and Ethan "CritECal" Neal have both earned spots in the top eight tournament of NACE after their performance this past weekend in the final qualifying tournament, and are both ranked in the top 3 in the nation. RockedYou ranks second in the nation with 28 total qualifying points, earning 15 of those in the second fall qualifier. CritECal follows closely behind in third with 24 points, 15 of those coming in the third fall qualifier. His three points in the final spring qualifier helped push him to his #3 spot.

Initially out of the top 10, Ben "AutomatedButton" Pomeroy has also been added to the Top 8 competition after drop outs in the original top 8. AutomatedButton originally sat in 10th place with 11 points, but now sits in the final spot of qualification.

The three Huskies are gunning for NU's first individual Hearthstone national title in program history, and the second total national title - the Northeastern Hearthstone squad won a 3v3 national title in the 2020 season.

The Huskies just narrowly missed out on having even more chances at a national title with Taran "Sandwich" Lee just missing out on the top 10. Sandiwch sits in 11th in the standings with 10 points.

The Top 8 competition begins Saturday, March 18, at 1 p.m. on the NACE StarLeague twitch channel.
