STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In game two of the weekend series, Northeastern (27-7, 9-5 CAA) fell to Stony Brook (13-19, 5-9 CAA) by a score of 11-3 at Joe Nathan Field on Saturday afternoon.
Northeastern was held to just three runs on five hits in the contest, and stranded 11 runners in attempts to rally after finding themselves down by four or more runs in the opening frames.
- The Seawolves were the first to strike in game two, tallying four runs in the bottom of the first on six base hits. They would add three more in the second for a 7-0 lead after two full innings of play.
- Stony Brook kept pouring the runs on with two more in the third and one in the fourth to lead 10-1.
- Northeastern only managed two hits in the opening five innings of play, the second of which was a solo home run from Matt Brinker to cut into the Stony Brook lead. The home run was Brinker's second of the year.
- Northeastern was able to tally another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Danny Crossen, to score Mike Sirota from third, to make it 10-2.
- A solo homer for Stony Brook in the eighth brought their run total to 11.
- Pinch hitting in the top of the ninth, Jack Thorbahn his a homer over the right field wall, his third of the season, to make it 11-3.
- The Huskies loaded the bases multiple times in the contest, including in the ninth inning, but were unable to bring in runs in those scenarios.
- Freshman starting pitcher Aiven Cabral (L, 4-3) lasted just the opening inning, his shortest weekend appearance since February 25th. He notched two strikeouts in his inning of work.
- Northeastern got scoreless bullpen appearances from Michael Gemma (2.0, 0H, 1BB) and Will Jones (1.0, 0H, 0BB).
- The Huskies are now 4-5 in games played on a Saturday.
- It was just the fourth game of the season where Northeastern allowed 10 or more runs – the Huskies are 2-2 in those games.
The series will be decided on Sunday, April 16
th with the rubber match beginning at 12 p.m. on FloBaseball.
