STORRS, Conn. – In a midweek matchup, the Northeastern Huskies (29-7) defeated the No. 15 UConn Huskies (26-10) by a score of 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

The win was Northeastern's second win over a ranked opponent this season, and second straight against UConn at Elliot Park, taking home a 9-4 victory in the 2022 season.

An offensive surge saw five homers on the day – leading the way was freshman
Cam Maldonado (4-for-5, 2 HR, 6 RBI) with two three-run blasts in the contest.
Mike Sirota (3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI) also hit multiple home runs in the contest. Left fielder
Alex Lane (3-for-4, 3R) rounded the base paths three times, and
Danny Crossen (2-for-5, HR, RBI, 3R) added the fifth home run. On the mound,
Jake Gigliotti (W, 6-0) earned his sixth win of the season as he kept UConn at bay to start the contest.

- Northeastern opened the floodgates early with singles in the first by Danny Crossen and Alex Lane. With two outs, Cam Maldonado hit a deep fly ball over the center field wall, scoring both runners for a quick 3-0 lead.
- The home run by Maldonado officially surpassed the previous program record with home runs hit in a season (60.)
- In the second inning, Spenser Smith led off and was hit by a pitch, and Mike Sirota stepped into the batters box and hit an opposite field home run, just clearing the right field wall to make it 5-0.
- UConn would answer back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot of their own, cutting the lead to 5-2.
- Sirota added another RBI in the third inning on a two-out RBI single, scoring Jimmy Sullivan who led off the inning with a double.
- An RBI double from Maldonado in the fourth scored Alex Lane, making it 7-2.
- A fielders' choice RBI for UConn chipped another run out of the lead in the bottom of the fourth, 7-3.
- In the fifth, Northeastern got back to back homers from Mike Sirota, his second of the game, and Danny Crossen, to make it 9-3.
- The UConn Huskies held Northeastern off the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh innings before a 3-run outburst in the eighth – after Crossen was hit by a pitch and Alex Lane singled, Cam Maldonado hit his second three-run homer of the contest, pushing the lead to nine runs.
- Starting pitcher Jake Gigliotti finished his day with four innings of work, five hits allowed, and three runs. He walked one batter, and recorded one strikeout.
- Taking over in the fifth was Patrick Harrington, who went three innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit and one walk. He struck out two batters in his three innings of work.
- In the eighth, Michael Gemma worked a no-contact inning, striking out his first two batters, then after two walks, a third strikeout.
- Closing out the game in the ninth was James Quinlivan, who notched the last two outs of the game via strikeout, stranding UConn runners on all bases with the final out.

Northeastern will host Hofstra this Friday through Sunday, April 21-23, for a three-game series. Game on is scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. start on NESN and FloBaseball.
