WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In game two of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (38-10, 18-8 CAA) fell to the William & Mary Tribe (31-20, 14-12 CAA) by a score of 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
The Huskies found themselves up early with a three-home run inning in the third, but the Tribe battled back with a big inning of their own and held on to tie the series at 1-1.
- The Husky bats were kept mostly quiet until the top of the third inning when Mike Sirota and Tyler MacGregor hit back to back one-out solo homers to put Northeastern on the board first.
- After MacGregor's homer, Danny Crossen was hit by a pitch and Cam Maldonado hit the Huskies' third homer of the inning, scoring two more to give NU a 4-0 lead.
- A pair of doubles scored a run in the third for the Tribe, and the lead was cut down to one run in the fourth on a solo home run and an RBI double.
- The rally was ended by reliever Jake Gigliotti, who struck out the final two outs of the fourth inning to get out of trouble with the lead in tact.
- Gigliotti would work a total of 2.2 innings, allowing just two runs, one earned, on three hits.
- The Huskies extended the lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Crossen, scoring Sirota from second base.
- William and Mary delivered a big four-run seventh inning on two hits and an error to take its first lead of the series, 7-5.
- The Tribe extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth on a single over the infield, scoring a runner from third to lead 8-5.
- Northeastern loaded the bases with one out in the ninth but flew out and struck out to end the rally.
- The Huskies fall to a 7-7 record in games played on a Saturday this year. In conference play, they are 4-6 on Saturdays.
- The Huskies have not lost a game in which they've hit three homers since March 4, 2020 – NU lost to Western Michigan at the Snowbird Baseball Classic, 17-16.
