Yost and MacGregor Pace Huskies Past Cougars In Game Two

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University baseball team (41-11, 20-9) won its sixth consecutive home series, defeating the College of Charleston (33-20, 17-12 CAA) by a score of 5-1 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

The Huskies got an incredible start from Eric Yost (W, 6-1) who worked eight innings of two-hit, one run ball, keeping the Cougars at bay. The Northeastern offense was led by Tyler MacGregor (3-for-3, HR, RBI, 3R) and Alex Lane (2-for-4, 2 2B, 2RBI) helping the Huskies tally runs in the first, third, sixth, and eighth innings.

  • The Cougars got on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.
  • After the home run, Eric Yost settled in and allowed just one more hit in the rest of the game, retiring the final 16 batters of the game.
  • Northeastern returned the favor in the bottom of the first with a run to tie the game – Mike Sirota reached on a walk and was driven in by a ground out by Danny Crossen.
  • In the third, Northeastern took the lead on Tyler MacGregor's second home run of the weekend, his 18th of the year, to make it 2-1.
  • Four-hitter Alex Lane notched an RBI double in the sixth inning, and another in the eighth to kick off a big insurance inning for Northeastern.
  • The Huskies added another run in the eighth when Danny Crossen ran home on a passed ball, for the final score of 5-1.
  • Closing the game for Northeastern was Jake Gigliotti, striking out two batters in the ninth to clinch the series.
  • Northeastern has won all six weekend series at home this season – their home record sits at 20-3.

The two teams are scheduled to finish up the series on Saturday, May 20th at Friedman Diamond. The game is currently scheduled for 1 p.m. on NESN and FloBaseball.
