WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northeastern men's track and field program won its eighth consecutive CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Zable Field in Williamsburg, Va.
Sitting in second place at the end of the first day, the Huskies put together a strong final day with 13 medals in total to overtake Monmouth in the standings and earn the title with 194 points.
Benjamin Godish was named the CAA Track Performer of the Meet after two gold medals on the final day with a 3:43.60 in the 1500m and a 14:08.00 in the 5000m to help push the Huskies over the edge.
Ethan Exilhomme earned a gold medal for the Huskies in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.68, after earning the silver medal a year ago.
Noah Sweeney took charge in the 100m, winning the gold medal at 10.59. Sweeney also took home the bronze medal in the 200m at 21.27 to earn key points for Northeastern.
Cory Gathier earned two medals with a silver in the 400m hurdles by a narrow margin at 51.03m, as well as a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.13.
The Huskies earned medals in both the relay events today, with the group of
Nii Yarboi Yartey,
Michael Stroup, Sweeney and
Phillips Magre taking the silver medal at 40.82 in the 4x100m. Also, the group of Yartey,
Nicholas Young,
Tyler Brogan and
Pierre Sylvain grabbed the bronze medal in the 4x400m with a time of 3:18.49.
Paul Wisnaskas earned the bronze medal in the men's decathlon with a total score of 5,731, while
Patrick Cantlon ran to a bronze medal finish in the 5000m at 14:25.15.
TRACK EVENTS:
- Outside of Godish, the Huskies pulled seven points out of the 1500m with a fifth-place finish from Brogan (3:46.41) and a sixth-place finish from Cantlon (3:46.78).
- Savion Thompson added four points to the Husky tally with a fifth-place finish in the 110m hurdles at 14.64.
- Magre added two points with a 50.47 in the 400m hurdles and a 22.20 in the 200m, while Stroup pulled in three more at 11.00 in the 100m.
- Northeastern took 10 points from the 800m with Anders Narita (1:52.15), Ryan Dailor (1:52.27), Young (1:52.88) and Daniel Caso (1:54.65).
- Following behind the 16 points earned in the top-three, the Huskies used five points from Patrick Cullen (14:27.08) and three points from Patrick Mullen (14:29.43) to total 24 in the second-to-last event to take the lead for good.
FIELD EVENTS
- Magre earned another 2.50 points for the Huskies in the high jump, finishing sixth with a mark of 1.90m.
- Emaunele Dokyi tallied a point in the triple jump, finishing with a mark of 13.33m, while Thompson finished at 13.17m.
The Huskies will compete again next weekend, May 12-13 in the New England Championships at the Solomon Track and Field Facility in Dedham, Mass.
