Huskies Hold Strong But Falter Late In Loss At No. 9 Louisville

LOUISVILLE — Junior midfielder Lara Taylor scored a goal and junior goaltender Kristina Merashoff made eight saves in her first collegiate start, but the Northeastern field hockey team (0-1) fell to the No. 9 Louisville Cardinals (1-0) 3-1 at Trager Field Saturday morning.
  • Louisville opened the scoring as Julie Kouijzer scored off a penalty corner in the first quarter.
  • Taylor got the Huskies on the board in the second, tying the game at 1-1 after intercepting a Louisville pass and scoring all by herself with 11:19 left in the second quarter. Taylor also led the team in shots with two.
  • Northeastern's back line stayed strong through the second and third quarters, surrendering no goals on 11 shots from the Cardinals.
  • Louisville scored twice in the final frame off goals from Aimee Plumb and Elena Plumb.
  • The game was originally scheduled for Fri. Aug. 25 at 5 p.m., but extreme heat pushed the start time to 7 p.m. before lightning delays preceding the game postponed the start time to Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
The Huskies stay in Louisville for a matchup with Bellarmine Sunday at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Bellarmine's streaming service.
