DEDHAM, Mass. — Graduate student midfielder
Lauren Rowe scored twice and had an assist and senior forward
Sarah Coyle assisted on five goals to lead the Northeastern field hockey team (2-1) to an 8-2 win over Holy Cross at Dedham Field Friday night, their first home win of the 2023 season.
Coyle's five-assist effort is the most in Division I this season and is tied for 10th-most all-time in Division I. It's the first time a student-athlete has recorded five assists in a game since Oct. 16, 2021.
- Rowe scored the first goal of the game in the first quarter, a bomb into the top of the net off a corner. Coyle and senior forward Mak Graves had assists.
- The Crusaders tied it in the second, but a first career goal for freshman Alex Mega off assists by juniors Lara Taylor and Maria Armaganian made it 2-1 headed into the break.
- The floodgates opened when Graves, Rowe and sophomore Emilia Adragna scored consecutive goals in the third quarter to extend the lead to 5-1.
- Graves scored off an assist from Coyle just under four minutes into the second half.
- Rowe's second goal was her fourth of the season and was assisted by Coyle and sophomore Anna-Kate Domingue. It's the ninth multi-goal game of her career and the second this season, after she scored twice at Bellarmine Aug. 25.
- Rowe's two goals tied her for second currently among Division I players for goals scored this season.
- Adragna's goal was her first of the season and was a shot through the legs of the Holy Cross goaltender. She was assisted by graduate student Cailin Hart and Domingue.
- The Crusaders scored in the third with under two minutes to go to make it 5-2, but the fourth quarter was all Northeastern.
- Junior Lilly Smith scored her first career goal and was assisted by Coyle over a minute into the final frame.
- That was followed 1:13 later by Taylor, who got her second goal this season and was assisted by Rowe.
- The Huskies' final goal came from senior Lauryn Wojcik, scoring her second goal of the season off Coyle's fifth and final assist.
After a historic evening, the Huskies stay at home for a matinee matchup with Merrimack, Sunday, Sept. 3 at 12 p.m. at Dedham Field.
