Story Links

BOSTON – Paced by a team-high nine kills from Defne Arliel, the Northeastern volleyball team (7-5, 3-1 CAA), took down Hofstra (13-2, 3-1 CAA) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center. The win marked the first time since 2020-21 that the Huskies swept the Pride and handed Hofstra only its second loss of the season.
  • Set One: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two to start the frame. The Pride went up 11-9 and continued to hold onto a slim advantage for the majority of the set. After Hofstra led 20-16, the Huskies tallied four straight points, highlighted by blocks from Nyla Shepherd and Julianna Truscott to knot the score up at 20. Back and forth play continued, until Arliel tallied back-to-back kills to give the Huskies a 24-22 lead. The Huskies then held on to take the set 25-23.
  • Set Two: The teams went back and forth at the start, up until the 10th point. Knotted up at 10, The Huskies went on a 6-0 run, three of which were kills from Arliel to pull ahead at 16-10. Hofstra trimmed the deficit with three straight points down the stretch to make it 21-20, but back-to-back errors by the Pride ultimately helped seal the set win for Northeastern at 25-22.
  • Set Three: Hofstra got off to a 10-6 lead, but the Huskies continued to fight back. Northeastern tallied three straight points, highlighted by an ace by Abby Reck and blocks from Shepherd and Arliel to trim the deficit to 11-10. The Huskies pulled ahead at 22-18, capped off by an ace from Pono Gacutan, and held on to win the set 25-21. Northeastern was strong at the net with four total team blocks compared to one for Hofstra in the frame and capitalized off Pride errors. Hofstra had 10 miscues compared to two for the Huskies.
