Mega's Late Winner Leads Huskies to Fourth-Straight Win over Brown

DEDHAM, Mass. — Freshman forward Alex Mega scored the game-winning goal with 10:57 remaining in the Northeastern field hockey team's (4-1) 3-2 win over Brown (2-1) at Dedham Field Friday night. The goal gave Northeastern its fourth-straight victory and helped it to the best start to a season since 2012, when the Huskies won the first six games on their schedule.
  • Senior forward Sarah Coyle started the scoring for the Huskies, potting her second goal of the season with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter off assists from sophomore midfielder Kate Blaisdell and freshman forward Julia Puccio. It was Puccio's first collegiate point and Coyle's 11th of the season, second-best on the team.
  • The Bears would equalize twice in the contest, and the first came 5:53 into the second quarter to make it 1-1.
  • After going into the half scoreless, Mega drew a penalty stroke for the Huskies and junior midfielder Maria Armaganian stepped up to take it. She slotted it over the goaltender into the top of the net and the Huskies earned a 2-1 lead just 3:07 into the second half.
  • Brown once again equalized with a goal late into the third period.
  • With 10:57 remaining, the Huskies earned a penalty corner. Coyle inserted it to Armaganian, who dumped it off to graduate student Lauren Rowe. Rather than Rowe—the Huskies' leading scorer with five goals this season—taking the shot, she sent it over to Mega, who had an easy redirection for her third goal of the season.
Following the Huskies' fourth-straight win, they will stay at home and host No. 16 Boston College Sunday, Sept. 10 for the Northeastern Field Hockey Alumni Day. The game can be streamed on FloSports.
