BOSTON – Deja Bristol tallied her second double-double of the season, and the Northeastern women's basketball team (6-8, 2-2 CAA) used a big first quarter to take down the Hofstra Pride (7-7, 1-2 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.

Bristol had a strong day, tallying eight of her points and seven rebounds in the second half. The senior has tallied double-digits in eight games this season, and in each of the past five games.

The Huskies also had double-digit performances from Derin Erdogan (18 points, six rebounds, four assists), Maddie Vizza (12 points), and Yirsy Queliz (11 points, four rebounds).

Northeastern shot 45.7% overall (21-of-46), but 66.7% (10-of-15) in the first quarter. The Huskies also edged Hofstra in paint points (26-20), and fast break points (19-5).

The Pride shot 28.3% (17-of-60), and were led by Emma Von Essen with 10 points.

Northeastern came out firing in the first, as Erdogan tallied a layup and Bristol notched a three-point play to give the Huskies a 5-1 lead. The Huskies offense couldn't be stopped, continuing their run with 11 more points, capped off by a jumper by Queliz and a free throw by Erdogan to balloon the advantage up to 16-1 at the 6:15 mark. Hofstra ended the run with a jumper, but NU continued to push the pace with six straight points down the stretch, and led 28-8 going into the second.

Both teams traded baskets in the second, but the Huskies continued to maintain their double-digit lead throughout the frame. Erdogan led NU with six points in the stanza, including two points in the final minute to end a 5-0 run by the Pride. The Huskies held Hofstra to 18.8% shooting (3-of-16) and led 41-21 at halftime.

Hofstra got off to a quick start in the third, tallying four straight points to trim the deficit to 41-25 at the 8:01 mark. Northeastern though, responded with five points, highlighted by a three from Marian Turnbull to balloon its lead to 46-25. The Pride made another run, but a three by Oralye Kiefer with 3:11 to go propelled NU to a 51-34 lead going to the fourth.

Von Essen got the Hofstra going in the fourth, notching a three-pointer within the first minute of the frame. The Pride didn't stop there, tallying seven more points to trim the deficit to seven (51-44) at the 7:27 mark. Bristol though, responded back with four points of her own to give NU back a double-digit advantage. Queliz notched a layup with 1:26 to go, and then NU put the game away with free throws to secure the win.

The Huskies will host Charleston in their Alumnae Game on Sunday, January 21. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. on FloHoops.
