GREENSBORO, N.C. – Landon Glasper went for 35 points and North Carolina A&T (5-13, 3-2) used a 17-2 run midway through the second half to down the Northeastern men's basketball team (7-11, 2-3) on Thursday night at Corbett Sports Center, 72-65.
Â
Glasper did most of his damage in the second half, dropping 24 in the final 20 minutes to finish 8-of-17 from the floor and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line to help the Aggies lead by as many as 11 in a game that saw 13 ties and five lead changes before the big run.
Â
Chris Doherty led Northeastern with a season-high 23 points on 10-of-18 from the floor, three shy of a career-high and the fourth time this season that Doherty has gone for 20+ in a game. He led four Huskies in double figures, joined by
Rashad King (11),
Masai Troutman (10) and
Harold Woods (10).
Â
Northeastern shot 44% as a team and just 2-of-18 from deep, outscoring A&T 42-22 in the paint, while North Carolina A&T went 19-of-44 from the floor and 29-of-32 from the line.
Â
It was a sluggish start to the night as the teams combined to shoot 35% in the first half before going into the locker room level at 26, with neither team leading by more than five points.
Â
Doherty got it going for Northeastern as the half wore on, finishing with the Huskies' final nine points of the half to bring his total to 13 at recess on 6-of-9 from the floor for an NU squad that shot 12-of-31 overall and 1-of-10 from deep, with the one make coming from Doherty.
Â
Glasper was the story for A&T, going for 11 on 3-of-9 from the floor as the Aggies shot 33% as a team (8-of-24) but stayed in it thanks to a 9-of-11 start from the stripe.
Â
It was a battle through most of the second half, as
Luka Sakota got it going with five quick points to help the Huskies go up by as many as eight with 14:48 to play, 42-34.Â
Â
A 12-2 A&T run from there, though, over 2:38 quickly erased the lead and brought it back within a possession before the big run over five minutes gave the Aggies a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
The Huskies will close out the weekend at Elon on Saturday night at 7 p.m. on FloHoops.
