THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- BEANS, BEANS AND MORE BEANS: Northeastern is set to face Boston University in the Beanpot final after defeating Harvard, 1-0 in the semifinals. For the first time in the 45 years of the Women's Beanpot, the championship round will be played at TD Garden. The Huskies will face BU for just the third time ever in the championship round. NU owns a 1-0-1 record against the Terriers in the championship, winning 4-3 in OT in 2012 and winning in double OT after the game officially ended in a 3-3Â tie in 2020. NU will be playing for a record 19th Beanpot title at TD and its first back-to-back titles since 2012-13.
- GWYN-YTHING IS POSSIBLE: Gwyneth Philips owns a 1.12 GAA and .955 save percentage, good for the fourth and second best marks in the country, respectively. Philips has played at least 770 more minutes (12+ games) than all of the goaltenders ranked above her in GAA and save percentage. Philips was recently named to the Goaltender of the Year watch list, joining 27 other goaltenders from around the NCAA.
- BIG DAWGS GOTTA EAT: Northeastern and Boston University will meet for the fourth time this season in the Beanpot Championship. NU owns a 3-0-0 edge over the Terriers this season. Peyton Anderson leads all Huskies this season with four points off two goals and two assists against BU. Goaltender Gwyneth Philips recorded all three wins with a .975 save percentage, .65 GAA and one shutout. In the semifinals, the Terriers defeated Boston College, 1-0, in a shootout after a 3-3 tie in regulation to advance to the Beanpot Championship. BU is currently riding a three-game unbeaten streak dating back to the BC game after sweeping Vermont this past weekend. Lacey Martin leads all Terriers with 12 goals and 21 points, while Clara Yuhn has the team lead with 11 assists.Â
Northeastern will next travel to Merrimack on Friday, Jan. 26 for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
