No. 14 NU Takes On Merrimack For Two Games

BOSTON— Coming off a 19th Beanpot title, the No. 14 Northeastern women's hockey team will return to Hockey East action to take on Merrimack in a home-and-home series beginning on Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m in Lawler Rink. Game two is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Matthews Arena. Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. 19 SERVINGS OF BEANS: For the 19th time, Northeastern was crowned Beanpot Champions after defeating Boston University, 2-1, in overtime. The Huskies are the first champions to win at TD Garden, where the women's tournament was played for the first time this season. Gwyneth Philips earned Bertagna award honors as the tournament's top goaltender and Skylar Irving was named MVP. Philips posted 32 saves over two games and allowed only one goal. Irving scored both of the Huskies' goals in the title game. A record 10,633 fans attended the Beanpot Championship game, making it the highest attendance for a women's NCAA hockey game in New England sports history. NU won its first back-to-back titles since 2012-13 with the victory.
  2. FEELING SKY HIGH: Skylar Irving leads all Huskies with a career-high 23 points off seven goals and 16 assists. Her 16 assists lead all Huskies and rank second among Hockey East players. Irving leads all Huskies with six multi-point games this season. The Huskies are 6-0-0 when she records a goal and 14-0-0 when she records a point.
  3. WARRIORS COME OUT AND PLAY: Northeastern and Merrimack are set to close out a three-game Hockey East slate this weekend. The Warriors won the first meeting, 1-0, with Alex Ferguson scoring the contest's lone goal. A familiar face is now behind the Merrimack bench, as Northeastern women's hockey alum Stephanie Wood is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Warriors. Celine Tedenby leads the warriors with seven goals, 11 assists and 18 points. In goal, Calli Hogarth has started all but one game for Merrimack. Hogarth owns a 2.76 GAA and .905 save percentage.
The Huskies will next travel to New Hampshire on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
