Huskies Host Stony Brook In CAA Opener Thursday Night

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team kicks off the conference slate on Thursday night when the Huskies host Stony Brook. Tip-off at Matthews Arena is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network as Northeastern looks to move to 11-1 in its last 12 CAA openers.
 
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
 
1. SERIES HISTORY VS. STONY BROOK

Northeastern and Stony Brook at meeting for the 16th time in series history, with the Huskies holding an 8-7 lead in the series. The teams split the season series in 2022-23, including a 79-66 win on Long Island in which the Huskies shot 71% in the second half.
 
2. CHASING HISTORY
The longest-tenured head coach in the CAA, Northeastern's Bill Coen is second in conference history in combined CAA and tournament wins with 181 and sits two victories from tying Jim Larranaga for first in CAA history. During his tenure on Huntington Avenue, Coen has led Northeastern to five appearances in the CAA Championship game, the most of any school in the conference since 2013, and two conference titles in 2015 and 2019.
 
3. DISCIPLINED
The Huskies are averaging just 14.9 fouls against per game this season, good for 47th in the nation and second in the CAA. Northeastern has shot 83 more free throws than its opponents, an average of more than six FTs per game.
