Huskies Fall To Hofstra In Four Sets

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Brynn Smith tallied a team-high 12 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern volleyball team (7-8, 5-2 CAA) fell to the Hofstra Pride (10-6, 6-1 CAA) on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
  • Set One – The Huskies got off to an early 10-6 lead, capped off by a solo block from Beatrice Gennari. Hofstra though, tallied the next three points to trim the deficit down to one. The Pride continued to push the pace, notching six of the next eight points to take a 15-12 advantage. Northeastern fought back, tallying six of the next seven points to take the lead back at 18-16. Millie Loehr paced NU with four kills on .667 hitting in the frame, two of which were clutch down the stretch to give the Huskies the set win at 25-22.
  • Set Two – Hofstra led 9-2 and held onto the advantage for the entirety of the frame. The Pride hit .250 in the set, and won at 25-13.
  • Set Three – Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. Hofstra went on a 3-0 run to pull ahead at 13-9, but back-to-back errors by the Pride trimmed the deficit down to two (13-11). After the hosts led 15-13, the Pride tallied six of the next seven points to take a 21-14 advantage. Hofstra hit .371 in the frame, and took the set at 25-16.
  • Set Four – NU got off to a quick 4-1 lead, highlighted by blocks from Kaylin Daniels and Georgia Stavrinides. The Pride though, tallied six of the next seven points to pull ahead at 7-5. The Huskies went on a 4-0 run midway through the frame to take a 17-16 advantage, but the Pride went on to win nine of the next 12 points to seal the match victory at 25-20.
  • Nadia Koanui tallied 10 digs and eight assists.
  • Carly Cooper notched 13 assists and 15 digs.
  • Gabby Reeves tallied her first collegiate double-double with 11 assists and 14 digs.
  • Daniels tallied a team-high four blocks.
  • Stavrinides recorded nine kills, six digs, and two blocks.
  • Loehr chipped in with six kills and three blocks.
  • Sahitya Krishnamurthy had 12 digs.
The Huskies will close out play at Hofstra on Saturday, October 12. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
