HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Georgia Stavrinides tallied a team-high nine kills, but the Northeastern volleyball team (7-9, 5-3 CAA) fell to the Hofstra Pride (11-6, 7-1 CAA) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
- Set One: NU stormed out to an early 13-4 lead, highlighted by two kills from Millie Loehr. Hofstra through, fought back with eight straight points to trim the deficit to 13-12. The two teams traded points down the stretch, with neither leading by more than one. The Pride pulled ahead at 20-18 after four straight points, and ultimately won the set at 25-20.
- Set Two: The Huskies got off to a 7-4 advantage propelled by two blocks and a kill from Beatrice Gennari. The Pride though, went on to tally the next five points to pull ahead at 9-7. Gennari continued to be the story for NU in the frame, tallying another block and a kill to trim the Pride lead to 15-13, but Hofstra responded with five straight points. The hosts went on to take the set at 25-18.
- Set Three: The Pride got off to a 10-7 lead, but the Huskies notched the next four points to pull ahead at 11-10. A few points later, Loehr tallied a solo block and an error by the hosts extended the advantage to 17-14. Hofstra fought back to knot the frame up at 19, but an error and a kill by Kaylin Daniels put NU ahead at 21-19. The Pride took the lead back at 23-22, but blocks by Daniels and Stavrinides followed by a kill by Stavrinides put NU back in front at 24-23. Hofstra took four of the next five points to seal the match win at 27-25.
- Nadia Koanui notched a team-high 14 digs.
- Carly Cooper dished out 10 assists and seven digs.
- Gennari chipped in with six kills and three blocks.
- Stavrinides and Daniels each tallied a team-high four blocks.
The Huskies will return to the court at Delaware on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20.
