NEWARK, Del. – Jane Nelson tallied a team-high seven kills, but the Northeastern volleyball team (7-10, 5-4 CAA) fell to the Delaware Blue Hens (10-6, 6-3 CAA) in three sets on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
- Set One: Northeastern got off to an early 10-5 advantage, highlighted by two kills from Nelson. Delaware though, tallied five of the next six points to trim the deficit to 11-10. The Blue Hens continued to push the pace, pulling ahead at 16-15 with two straight points. Down the stretch, a kill by Georgia Stavrinides gave NU a 20-19 lead, but Delaware closed the frame on a 6-0 run to take the set at 25-20.
- Set Two: Delaware stormed out to a 10-3 advantage and continued to remain in front. Back-to-back kills by Nelson and Stavrinides cut the lead by the hosts to 21-16, but Delaware won four of the next six points to take the set at 25-18.
- Set Three: The Blue Hens' offense took off in the frame, taking a 10-5 advantage. Delaware didn't look back, stretching their lead to 19-5 a few points later. The Blue Hens hit .536 in the frame, and won the set at 25-9.
- Nadia Koanui tallied nine digs.
- Gabby Reeves dished out 11 assists and Carly Cooper had 10 assists.
- Brynn Smith chipped in with six kills and seven digs.
The Huskies will close out play in Delaware on Sunday, October 20. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
