Huskies Beat Cross Town Rival Boston University 4-2

BOSTON, Mass. — Junior Emilia Adragna and senior Lara Taylor tallied two goals each as the Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (8-6, 2-1 CAA) continued its winning streak after earning a 4-2 victory over the Boston University Terriers (5-7, 2-2 Patriot) at New Balance Field on Sunday afternoon.

  • The Huskies threatened to open the scoring early in the first with three shots, while the defense hunkered down and limited possession in their half of the field.
  • Early into the second quarter, Mak Graves collected the ball down the right wing, cutting inside and linking up with Adragna in the circle. She then created space before connecting on a shot that rocked the bottom of the cage to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.
  • Northeastern added a second nearly five minutes later off a penalty corner, where graduate student Lauren Rowe collected the ball and blasted a shot that deflected off the stick of Taylor, sending it into the upper netting and giving the visitors a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
  • The team added a third at 9:42 in the third quarter on another penalty corner. After Rowe was unable to send a shot on net, the Norwich, England native kept possession before finding Adragna in the circle, who collected her second goal of the afternoon with a shot to the bottom left corner.
  • However, Boston University battled back early in the fourth, grabbing two goals within a 1:12 span to put themselves back in the contest to make it 3-2.
  • After the Terriers pulled their goalkeeper, the Huskies maintained possession before Taylor collected the ball just outside the circle and carried it into the net for her second of the day, securing a 4-2 victory for Northeastern.
  • Adragna and Taylor tallied four points each, while Rowe recorded three and Graves had one.
  • This is head coach Pam Spuelher's first win against her alma mater as a part of the Northeastern field hockey team.
  • Today's win marks the fifth straight this season, the longest winning streak for the team since 2014 when they won 11 straight games.

Northeastern stays on the road as it takes on the Delaware Blue Hens (6-7, 3-1 CAA) for a CAA contest on Friday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. The contest will be available to stream on FloSports.
