NEWARK, Del. – Jane Nelson notched a game-high 12 kills, but the Northeastern volleyball team (7-11, 5-5 CAA) fell to the Delaware Blue Hens (11-6, 7-1 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
- Set One: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. The Huskies went on a 3-0 run capped off by blocks by Millie Loehr and Nelson to pull ahead at 9-6. A few points later, Northeastern's defense continued to be strong as blocks by Loehr and Brynn Smith extended the advantage to 12-8. After NU led 22-19 down the stretch, Delaware tallied six of the final seven points to win the set at 25-23.
- Set Two: Delaware stormed out to an early 10-5 advantage, and held onto the momentum for the entirety of the frame. The Blue Hens hit .581 overall, and won the set at 25-9.
- Set Three: Nelson was strong for NU in the frame, tallying two early kills to propel the Huskies to a 9-8 lead. Delaware though, fought back to knot the score up at 11. After the teams were tied up again at 17, Delaware tallied the next five points to take a 22-17 advantage. The Huskies battled, winning three straight points capped off by a kill from Georgia Stavrinides to cut Delaware's lead to 24-23, but the Blue Hens tallied the next point to seal the victory at 25-23.
- Loehr chipped in with four kills, an ace, and four blocks.
- Arina Sosinovica dished out a team-high 13 assists.
- Nadia Koanui had 11 digs.
The Huskies will host Stony Brook on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26.
