BOSTON, Mass. — Friday night at Matthews Arena, the Northeastern men's hockey team came up short to the No. 6 Maine Black Bears by a score of 4-1.
- With shots even at 9-9 through the first period, Northeastern came out dominate to start the game. NU created numerous chances at the net, but the game remained scoreless into the first intermission.
- In the second period, Maine would go up 2-0 with both goals coming off a rebound in front of the crease.
- Maine added an empty-net goal to their lead with under two minutes remaining in the game.
- The Huskies offense finally converted with 1:21 left on the clock. Scoring his third goal in as many games, junior Cam Lund netted the puck off a coast-to-coast feed from junior Jack Williams to make it a 3-1 game. Fellow junior Vinny Borgesi picked up the secondary assist on the goal, giving him three points in his last two outings.
- Before the game came to a close, the Black Bears would tack on one more empty netter to finish the 4-1 win.
- NU led Maine in faceoffs win, 34-17, with Williams taking the advantage over both rosters with 17 wins on the night.
- The Huskies also doubled the Black Bears blocks, 14-7, as Borgesi and junior Nick Rhéaume both recorded a game-high three blocked shots.
- In net, sophomore netminder Cameron Whitehead tallied 30 saves, his second highest of the season, in 58:49 minutes of action.
The Huskies will close out their home weekend series with the Black Bears tomorrow night (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m.
