Northeastern Falls To MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Northeastern Huskies swim and dive team (2-1) earned five individual wins and one team but fell 173-124 to the MIT Engineers (1-0) Friday night at Zesinger Center Pool.
  • Graduate student Emily Gjertsen took the first individual win of the evening for Northeastern, championing the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:16.89. Sophomore Bella Busconi followed close behind in third with a 10:41.53 mark.
  • Gjersten also took first place in the 500 Yard Free after swimming a time of 5:03.77.
  • The Northeastern A Diving Team, comprised of senior Erin Murphy, senior captain Isabelle Chambers, and junior Jodi Au, was next to take first place. They earned a 242.30 combined score to win the 1-meter team diving event and beat MIT's A Team by .1.
  • Next was junior Anna Verlander, who touched the wall first in the 200 Yard Back event after recording a time of 2:03.54 to score the Huskies' third individual win.
  • Sophomore May Bradburn took home first place in the 100 Yard Fly with a time of 55.63.
  • On the diving board, Murphy championed the 3M event by logging a score of 268.05, and freshman Madeleine Wong and Au followed with scores of 243.80 and 231.05.
  • Senior captain Hannah Seward rounded out the individual winners for Northeastern with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming a time of 2:07.58.
Next, the Huskies return to Barletta Natatorium to host UConn on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:00 p.m. That matchup will be streamed on FloCollege.
