Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep With Straight-Set Win Over William & Mary

BOSTON – Two Huskies tallied double-digit kills, and the Northeastern volleyball team (7-7, 5-1 CAA) hit .324 overall to knock off William & Mary (5-10, 1-5 CAA) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Cabot Center. With the victory, Northeastern completed the weekend sweep over the Tribe.
 
For the second straight match, Brynn Smith paced the NU offense with game-high 13 kills on .345 hitting and nine digs. Georgia Stavrinides also had a strong performance with 10 kills on .421 hitting with five blocks.
 
On defense, Nadia Koanui tallied a game-high 18 digs and Kaylin Daniels had a team-high six blocks. Koanui was also stellar from the service line with a career-high six aces, which ranks second in program history for the most in a single match.
  • Set One: William & Mary got off to an early 8-5 lead, but Northeastern fought back. A few points later, the Huskies went on a 7-0 run highlighted by four aces from Koanui to pull ahead at 15-14. After the Tribe led 23-21, Northeastern responded back with two points to knot the frame up. The visitors had set point at 24-23, but NU went on a 3-0 run to seal the set win at 26-24.  Koanui tallied five of her aces in the frame.
  • Set Two: Northeastern led 6-2, highlighted by three kills from Stavrinides. Northeastern continued to dominate in the set, extending its lead to 15-6 after back-to-back blocks and an ace by Carly Cooper. The Huskies hit a blistering .577 in the frame and won the set at 25-11.
  • Set Three: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. The Huskies pulled ahead at 16-10 after back-to-back errors, and didn't look back. William & Mary went on a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 21-18, but Northeastern went on to tally four of the final five points to seal the victory at 25-19. The Huskies held the Tribe to .021 hitting in the frame.
  • Cooper dished out a game-high 20 assists, and Gabby Reeves had 14 assists.
  • Millie Loehr chipped in with seven kills on .375 hitting with four blocks.
  • Sahitya Krishnamurthy notched 10 digs.
  • As a team, Northeastern outblocked William & Mary 12 to two.
The Huskies will hit the road to face Hofstra on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
