HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The Northeastern Huskies field hockey team (12-6, 5-1 CAA) concluded its regular season campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Hofstra Pride (4-14, 2-4 CAA) Friday afternoon.
- The hosts came out aggressively, applying pressure on the Husky backline in the first five minutes of the contest. However, Northeastern would open the scoring after a long ball found the stick of sophomore Alex Mega, who worked herself into the opposing circle and battled to hit the ball into the cage. After clashing with Hofstra defenders for several seconds, the ball reached senior Lara Taylor, who tapped it over the line to make it 1-0.
- Northeastern extended its advantage halfway through the second quarter, as senior Maria Armaganian capitalized on a gap in the Pride defense, sending a high and deep pass that took a one-hop in the Pride circle before junior Emilia Adragna possessed the ball and blasted a shot into the upper netting, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
- Hofstra would score its first goal of the game 11:38 into the third off a penalty corner to cut the deficit in half, but the Huskies responded less than 60 seconds later with an open-play goal. Smooth buildup from the Northeastern midfield was capped off by graduate student captain Lauren Rowe locating Adragna inside the circle, where she slotted her second of the afternoon to give the Huskies a 3-1 lead. The team would see out the fourth quarter and hold on for the win, extending its winning streak to nine games.
- This is Adragna's second multi-goal performance this season. She finishes the regular season with four goals and nine points.
- Rowe finished the regular season as Northeastern's leading scorer and assister, collecting 10 each for 30 points. Junior Emmy Stubbs finished the campaign with 18 points, and Mega and Taylor rounded out the top three points finishers on the team with 14 each.
Northeastern has earned the No. 2 seed in the CAA Tournament and will face the Delaware Blue Hens on Friday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. in Philadelphia, PA.
