BOSTON – Kinley Gomez tallied a team-high 12 kills as the Northeastern volleyball team (10-14, 8-8 CAA) completed the weekend sweep over the Campbell Camels (6-20, 4-12 CAA) with a four-set victory on Senior Day.
Northeastern's offense was guided by
Carly Cooper with 20 assists and 12 digs, her sixth double-double of the season.
Arina Sosinovica also dished out 16 assists.
Defensively, the Huskies were led by
Nadia Koanui with a game-high 23 digs.
Beatrice Gennari also paced the squad with a team-high five blocks. As a team, Northeastern had 66 digs compared to 54 by the Camels.
- Set One: Northeastern got off to an early 7-4 lead, capped off by a kill from Georgia Stavrinides. A few points later, the Huskies went on a 3-0 run to extend the advantage to 15-9. Northeastern continued to push the pace, tallying six straight points to lead 21-11. Down the stretch, Stavrinides notched three of her four kills in the frame to give NU the set win at 25-14.
- Set Two: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. Campbell though, pulled ahead at 11-7 after three straight points. The Camels continued to remain in front, tallying three straight points to lead 17-10. Campbell hit .419 in the frame, and won the set at 25-19.
- Set Three: Northeastern got off to a 11-9 advantage, capped off by a kill from Stavrinides. Campbell though, went on to win the next three points to pull ahead at 12-11. The teams traded points for the majority of the frame, with neither leading by more than three. After the Camels had set point at 24-20, Northeastern stunned Campbell by winning the next six points to take the set at 26-24. Northeastern's defense stood tall in the comeback with huge blocks from Gennari and Gomez, and then Gennari and Sosinovica.
- Set Four: NU led 6-2, highlighted by an ace from Koanui. Campbell fought back to knot the frame up at eight, but Northeastern tallied three straight points to take the advantage back at 11-8. After the Camels trimmed the deficit to one (16-15), the Huskies responded right back. Gomez paced NU in the frame with four kills, two of which came down the stretch to propel the Huskies to a 25-19 win.
- Gennari also had six kills on .417 hitting.
- Millie Loehr chipped in with eight kills and three blocks.
- Stavrinides tallied eight kills.
- Sahitya Krishnamurthy notched 10 digs.
With the win and Stony Brook's loss to Towson, Northeastern remains in the hunt for the final spot in the CAA tournament.
The Huskies will close out the regular season at Charleston (21-8, 13-3 CAA) on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16.
