Northeastern Opens 2024-25 Season At Boston University Monday Night

BOSTON -- The 105th season of Northeastern men's basketball commences on Monday night when the Huskies travel to crosstown rival Boston University. Tip-off at Case Gym is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

1. SERIES HISTORY WITH BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Northeastern and Boston University are meeting for the 152nd time in series history, with the Huskies holding a slight edge in the all-time series, 76-75. In last season's meeting at Matthews Arena, Luka Sakota led three Huskies in double figures as Northeastern outscored the Terriers 24-14 over the final 11:58 to pick up a 67-58 victory.

Northeastern is also 52-52 all-time in season openers, including a 10-8 mark under head coach Bill Coen.

2. TROUTMAN COLLECTS PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Junior guard Masai Troutman was named to the All-CAA Preseason Second Team at the conference's annual Media Day on Oct. 18. Troutman played and started in all 32 games as a sophomore in 2023-24, averaging 28.5 minutes per game, good for second on the team. He was fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game, which is second highest of all returning Huskies behind only Harold Woods.

The Frederick, Md. native shot 43% from the field a season ago and reached double figures in 17 games highlighted by a season-high 17 points, shooting 40% from the field at La Salle. He was also second on the team with 31 steals.

3. WELCOME BACK, MATT JANNING
Head coach Bill Coen announced in July that Matt Janning '10 has joined the staff as an assistant coach. Janning recently completed a 13-year professional career and is one of the top players in Northeastern history.

"We're thrilled to have Matt join the coaching staff here at Northeastern," Coen said. "Matt is one of the best players in the history of our program and had an incredibly successful professional career over the last 13 years. He played in the NBA as well as the highest levels of professional basketball around the globe. We are confident that his playing experience, knowledge of the game, and leadership qualities will greatly benefit our student-athletes and our program. We're extremely excited to welcome Matt and his family back home to Northeastern University."
