TOWSON, M.D. – Brynn Smith tallied a team-high 11 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern volleyball team (8-14, 6-8 CAA) fell to the Towson Tigers (20-4, 11-3 CAA) in three sets on Sunday afternoon at TU Arena.
- Set One: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. Towson though, pulled ahead at 14-9 after five straight points. NU trimmed the deficit to 15-13 after a kill from Smith followed by an error, but the Tigers responded with the next three points. Down the stretch, a service error by the hosts made it 22-18, but Towson tallied the next three points to win the set at 25-18.
- Set Two: The Tigers got off to an early 10-6 advantage, but the Huskies battled back. After Towson extended its lead to 18-13, NU tallied the next four points to cut the deficit to 18-17. Both teams battled down the stretch, as back-to-back kills by Georgia Stavrinides and Smith trimmed the Towson lead to 20-19. The Tigers had a 23-21 advantage, but a kill by Kinley Gomez followed by an error knotted the frame up at 23. The Tigers though, tallied three of the next four points to seal the tight set win at 26-24.
- Set Three: Towson led 7-4, but NU won the next three points to tie the frame up at seven. Back and forth play continued, with neither leading by more than two. After Stavrinides tallied a kill to trim the Towson deficit to 17-14, the Tigers tallied the next three points (20-14). The Tigers hit .324 overall in the frame, and won the set at 25-17.
- Gomez tallied eight kills and 10 digs.
- Stavrinides chipped in with seven kills.
- Beatrice Gennari notched five kills on .556 hitting.
- Arina Sosinovica dished out a team-high 17 assists and Carly Cooper added 14 assists.
- Nadia Koanui had a team-high 14 digs.
The Huskies will host Campbell for their Alumni Game on Saturday, November 9 and for Senior Day on Sunday, November 10.
