Volleyball Defeats Campbell In Four Sets

BOSTON – Three Huskies tallied double-digit kills as the Northeastern volleyball team (9-14, 7-8 CAA) took down the Campbell Camels (6-19, 4-11 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
 
Georgia Stavrinides paced NU with a career-high 13 kills and four blocks. Brynn Smith also headlined the squad with 11 kills on .385 hitting, while Kinley Gomez had 11 kills and eight digs.
 
Northeastern's offense was guided by Carly Cooper and Arina Sosinovica with 21 assists each.
 
In the back row, Nadia Koanui led the Huskies with a match-high 15 digs.
  • Set One: The Huskies stormed out to a commanding 11-4 advantage, capped off by a kill from Smith. Campbell though, fought back to trim the deficit to 14-10 a few points later. Northeastern continued to hold onto the momentum, as three straight points capped off by a solo block from Stavrinides extended the lead to 19-11. Four Huskies notched three kills in the frame, and NU took the set at 25-16.
  • Set Two: Campbell got off to a 10-5 lead and continued to push the pace. A kill by Smith followed by an error trimmed the deficit to 17-12, but the Camels tallied the next three points. The Huskies battled down the stretch with three straight points highlighted by a Koanui kill to make it 22-17, but Campbell won three of the next four points to take the set at 25-18.
  • Set Three: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. After Campbell took the lead at 10-9, the Huskies went on a 4-0 run highlighted by two kills from Smith to pull ahead at 13-10. The Camels trimmed the deficit to 18-17, but NU closed the set on a 7-0 run to win at 25-17. Smith was unconscious in the frame with five kills on .417 hitting.
  • Set Four: The Huskies came out firing, taking a 12-4 advantage capped off by a kill from Gomez. Campbell cut the lead to 18-13, but NU responded with back-to-back kills from Gomez and Beatrice Gennari. Stavrinides put the set out of reach after two straight kills (23-14), and Smith kill sealed the match win at 25-17. Northeastern hit .323 overall in the frame.
  • Gennari chipped in with seven kills on .312 hitting.
  • Millie Loehr added six kills and a team-high seven blocks.
  • As a team, the Huskies were strong from the service line with eight aces.
 The Huskies will close out play against Campbell for Senior Day on Sunday, November 10. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
