BOSTON – Abby Jegede tallied a career-high 19 points, but Boston University (1-0), used a big third quarter to take down the Northeastern women's basketball team (0-1) in its season opener on Monday evening at Case Gym.

Jegede has a strong Husky debut, shooting 6-of-11 from the floor with three steals and two assists. Bailey Williams also joined Jegede in double-digits adding 10 points off the bench.

On the boards, Taylor Holohan had a stellar collegiate debut with a team-high nine rebounds (eight defensive) and also had a team-high four steals.

After Boston University got a quick three to start the game, María Sánchez Pitarch tallied her first collegiate bucket to trim the deficit down to one at the 8:58 mark. The Terriers though, responded back with a 6-0 run to extend the advantage to 9-2. A Maddie Vizza three cut the lead to 9-5, but BU went on to tally the next five points. The Terriers shot 42.9% (6-of-14) overall, and took a 16-10 lead into the second.

The Terriers continued to push the pace in the second, building a 27-14 advantage at the 5:09 mark. The Huskies though, battled back with an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Jegede to cut the lead by the hosts to 29-22. NU's bench was strong in the frame with eight points, six which came from Williams, but the Huskies trailed 29-22 heading into halftime.

Boston University came out firing in the third, extending its lead to 38-26 after seven straight points. Back-to-back layups by Williams and Natalie Larrañaga cut into the lead, but the Terriers responded back with seven straight points. The Terriers shot 57.1% (8-of-14) overall, and 50% (3-of-6) from deep to take a 18-point lead (51-34) into the final frame.

After BU made free throws to start the fourth, Northeastern's offense took off. The Huskies went on a 8-0 run, finished off by a steal and layup from Holohan to trim the deficit to 54-42 with 3:55 to go. NU didn't stop there, as another layup by Holohan followed by a jumper by Oralye Kiefer made it 57-48 with a minute to go. The Terriers though, sank free throws to put the game out of reach for good.
