BOSTON – In its first season under head coach Jeremy Bonomo, the Northeastern University men's soccer team took great strides in building a foundation for the future, focusing on strong defense and well-rounded scoring as the team, and set several marks that hadn't been met since the 2021 season, a year in which the Huskies finished just a point shy of a regular season conference title.
"Starting over with a new coach is never easy," said Bonomo. "We wanted to be playing our best at the most critical time of the season and we achieved that goal. The 2nd half of the season was enjoyable as guys started to gel together, they got used to what was expected and demanded from me and they executed on the field. If there was one more week of the season, I'm confident our opponents wouldn't want to play us. I'm proud of our guys, and I'm excited for the future of this program"
- Northeastern's defense shined to the tune of a 1.06 goals-against average, which ranked third in the Coastal Athletic Association, and 44th in the country at the end of the regular season. The Huskies posted six shutouts on the year, the most since 2018.
- Goalkeeper Colby Hegarty posted a 1.00 GAA, the second-lowest average in the CAA and 38th-lowest in the country. His 1.00 is the 6th-best in program single-season history, and the lowest by a NU keeper since Dylan Faber (0.96) in 2013. Hegarty's save percentage on the year was .793, which was good #19 in the NCAA, and second-best in the conference.
- Northeastern finished the year hot, bouncing back from a 1-4-2 record to start the season with a 3-1-4 record in its final eight games including a six-game unbeaten streak (the longest since 2012) stretching nearly the entire month of October. In that eight-game stretch, Northeastern outscored its opponents 17-8, after tallying just six goals in their opening 10 contests.
- NU reclaimed Parsons Field as a tough away day, posting the best home winning percentage (.611, 4-2-3) for the program since the 2021 season (5-2-1, .688). Northeastern went 3-0 in its final three home games of the season, with two conference wins of three goals or more.
- The Huskies held a +.38 scoring margin in 2024, which was the first positive scoring margin for the program since 2021. NU outscored its opponents 23-17 on the year.
- A total of 72 points were tallied by Huskies this season, spread among 15 different members of the squad. Northeastern had seven different multi-goal scorers on the year and seven players with two or more assists.
With the foundation laid by the 2024 Huskies, the program is poised to continue rising in the 2025 season and beyond, building on the momentum that began this season.
