BOSTON, Mass. — Game two between the Northeastern Men's Hockey team and No. 11 Providence College would turn into a barn burner as the Huskies fell, 6-5, in overtime.
- The first period saw three goals between the two teams and striking first was Northeastern on the power play at the 7:42 mark. Right off the faceoff, won by captain Jack Williams, a direct feed from assistant captain Vinny Borgesi found assistant captain Cam Lund in the slot for a one timer to take the 1-0 lead.
- Providence was the next to convert on their own power play opportunity with 4:37 left in the game to make it 1-1.
- With only 16 seconds left on the clock, sophomore Dylan Hryckowian sent a wraparound pass from behind the net to the right dot where freshman Joe Connor rung the puck in for his first collegiate goal. Graduate student Jake Boltmann was credited with the secondary on the goal.
- Period two would remain just as active with four goals through the 20 minutes. Opening the frame, with his second point of the night, was Hryckowian with a put back in front of the crease to go up, 3-1. With the assists, Lund and Williams also tallied their second points of the night.
- The Friars would go on to score back-to-back power-play goals to tie the game back up a 3-3.
- Northeastern once again would score the final goal of the period. The second power-play tally for the Huskies would come from Williams on a one timer from the left dot. A beautiful connection from Borgesi and Lund would lead to the 4-3 advantage.
- Only 20 minutes to play in regulation and, again, a flurry of goals came with it. This time, Providence would open the frame with back-to-back goals to go back up 5-4.
- To keep themselves in the game and force overtime, junior Joaquim Lemay buried an absolute snipe from the point for a 5-5 game and his first goal as a Husky. Adding to their assist column was Hryckowian and Lund.
- In overtime, the Friars earned a power-play opportunity that ultimately resulted in the game winner.
- Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead picked up his fifth 30+ save game of the season after recording 34 saves in 62:18 minutes of action.
- Williams, for the fifth time this year, lead both teams in faceoff wins, recording a season-high 22. Additionally, three NU defenseman tied with team-high three blocks on the night including Borgesi, Boltmann and junior Jackson Dorrington.
The Huskies are set for another Hockey East weekend as they travel to New Hampshire on Friday, Nov. 15 before returning home on Saturday, Nov. 16.
