Northeastern Falls To Holy Cross, 61-37

BOSTON, Mass. -- Yirsy Queliz and Natalie Larranaga combined to score 29 total points - 78.4 percent of Northeastern's points - but the Huskies fell to the Holy Cross Crusaders 61-37 at home Saturday.

The Huskies (1-8) had two players score in double figures, led by Queliz, who had 15 points and four assists. Larranaga tacked on 14 points and three steals off the bench and Camille Clement added six points.

Northeastern forced 18 Holy Cross turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Huskies turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Larranaga's three steals led the way for Northeastern.

Northeastern started out the scoring by going on a 6-0 run, culminating in a three from Clement, to take an early lead with 8:13 left in the first quarter. The Huskies then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 11-8.

The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 32-16 halftime deficit.

Holy Cross continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 40-20 advantage before Northeastern went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Queliz, to trim its deficit to 40-27 with 1:26 to go in the third. Holy Cross countered and stretched its lead to 44-30 heading into the fourth. Northeastern knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.

Northeastern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 61-37. Northeastern took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its seven points in the paint.

The Huskies will be back in action on January 3 when Northeastern hosts Stony Brook in its CAA opener.
