BOSTON -- Abigail Jegede and Yirsy Queliz combined to score 37 total points, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (1-9, 0-1) fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves (6-6, 1-0) 72-51 at home Friday at the Cabot Center.
The Huskies had two players score in double figures, led by Jegede, who had 25 points. Queliz added 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Alyssa Staten added five points and 11 rebounds.
The Northeastern offense was very productive from deep, making nine threes on 23 attempts. Jegede was the most prolific shooter for the Huskies, draining six treys in the contest.
Northeastern kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 20-17.
The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-28 halftime deficit.
Northeastern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Huskies faced a 55-40 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Northeastern knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.
Northeastern came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Queliz's three, to shrink the deficit to 55-47 with 7:39 to go in the contest. Stony Brook responded and outscored the Huskies the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-51. Northeastern fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 11 points.
