BOSTON – Four players reached double figures and the Northeastern men's basketball team (6-3) shot 52% as a team en route to an 82-68 victory over La Salle (6-3) on Tuesday night at Matthews Arena.
Â
Northeastern, which never trailed in the game, saw
Masai Troutman and
Harold Woods go for 17 points apiece, while
Rashad King went for 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and
LA Pratt added 11 points, four assists and four steals.
Â
Woods finished the night 8-of-15 from the field and added 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season for a Huskies squad that went 8-of-19 from three-point range and had 18 assists on 33 made buckets.
Â
Troutman, meanwhile, did his damage in the second half, scoring 13 of his 17 points in the final 20 minutes to finish the night 6-of-10 from the field.
Collin Metcalf also filled the scoresheet at both ends of the floor, contributing nine points, 10 rebounds and a career-high six blocks in 18 minutes of action.
Â
Corey McKeithan went for a game-high 21 points for La Salle on 7-of-14 as the Explorers shot 37% overall and 35% from deep.
Â
It was a first half of runs, with Northeastern flying out on a 10-0 run on 5-of-5 from the floor, before La Salle trimmed the gap to four at the break, 31-27.
Â
Metcalf was the story for the Huskies, finishing the half with eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks in 12 minutes for a Northeastern team that led by as many as 14 points and shot 54% from the field.
Â
The Explorers stayed in the game despite a 10-of-34 showing overall, forcing the Huskies into 11 first half turnovers and going on a pair of 7-0 runs in the final eight minutes to make it a two-possession game at recess.
Â
Three buckets from McKeithan out of the break brought La Salle to within one early in the second half before the threes started raining down for Northeastern, with
JB Frankel, Troutman and Pratt all connecting from deep during a 10-0 Huskies run that put the hosts back up by double digits.
Â
La Salle kept hanging around, however, using an 11-0 run of its own capped by a pair of triples from McKeithan to bring the deficit back down to one with 10:26 to play.
Â
But the Huskies would respond yet again, using an 10-2 run over less than two minutes highlighted by back-to-back threes from Troutman to put Northeastern ahead for good before icing the game at the free throw line.
Â
Northeastern will be back home on Sunday afternoon when the Huskies host Colgate at 2 p.m. on NESN and FloCollege. Sunday is Youth Day at Matthews Arena, with a pregame mini-hoop giveaway and postgame meet and greet and autograph session with the Huskies.
