AMHERST, Mass. – Abby Jegede tallied a career-high 20 points, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (1-6) fell to the UMass Minutewomen (3-5), 81-50, on Thursday evening at the Mullins Center.
Jegede had a stellar night, shooting 6-of-11 from the floor, and 2-of-2 from deep.
Camille Clement also tallied double-digits for Huskies with 12 points, all of which came from three.
As a team, UMass shot 52.4% (33-of-63), and 52.6% (10-of-19) from deep, and led for the entirety of the game. Allie Palmieri paced the Minutewomen with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
UMass got off to a quick 2-0 advantage, but
Yirsy Queliz responded with a basket to knot the score up. After a layup by Jegede that gave NU a 4-2 lead, UMass' offense took off. The Minutewomen went on a 16-0 run to take a 18-4 advantage at the 3:40 mark. UMass shot 52.6% overall (10-of-19) and 57.1% (4-of-7) from deep, taking a 26-8 lead into the second.
The Minutewomen continued to push the pace in the second, tallying eight straight points. The hosts didn't look back, shooting 56% (10-of-18), and took a 32-point lead into halftime.
In the third, UMass outscored NU 20-13, and took a 39-point advantage into the final frame.
The Huskies had a strong offensive performance in the fourth, with Jegede and Clement leading the way. Jegede tallied six of her points, highlighted by her second three of the contest, surpassing her previous career-high at 19 points. Clement was unconscious in the frame, tallying nine points, all of which came from deep. Northeastern shot 53.3% overall (8-of-15), and 57.1% (4-of-7) from three, but it wasn't enough to overcome UMass' double-digit lead.
The Huskies will host Stonehill in their Boston Public Schools Game on Wednesday, December 18. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m.
