Northeastern Drops Series Opener To No. 9 Maine

Box Score ORONO, Maine — The Northeastern men's hockey team dropped, 5-1, in their series opener with No. 9 Maine.
  • Maine took advantage early for a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes of action.
  • With 11:50 gone in the middle frame, the Huskies cut their deficit in half, making it a 2-1 game. From the blueline freshman Nolan Hayes dumped the puck behind the net for senior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine. Waiting for the right moment, Fontaine connected with sophomore Cam Lund in the slot for his 11th tally of the season.
  • Despite the continued fight, Maine would score three unanswered goals through the remainder of the game for a 5-1 finish.
  • Netminder Cameron Whitehead finished with 30 saves in 60 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore Jack Williams lead NU with 13 faceoff wins, while sophomore Hunter McDonald totaled a team-high three blocks.
The Huskies are back at Alfond Arena tomorrow night to close out their weekend series with the Black Bears.
