GREENSBORO, N.C. – Deja Bristol tallied a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern women's basketball team (8-11, 4-5 CAA) fell to the North Carolina A&T Aggies (14-6, 8-1 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at Corbett Sports Center.
The senior has tallied double-digit points in the past 10 games and notched seven of her points in the second half.
Derin Erdogan also headlined the Huskies with 12 points and five rebounds.
As a team, Northeastern struggled offensively, shooting 34% overall (18-of-53), and 33.3% (8-of-24) from three in the contest.
The Aggies shot 42.9% (24-of-56) overall, but 50% (12-of-24) in the second half. Leading the North Carolina A&T offense was Jordyn Dorsey with a game-high 22 points.
After the Aggies tallied a three-pointer to start off the game, the Huskies offense came out firing, tallying four of their first six field goals. Northeastern went on a 9-0 run, capped off by back-to-back jumpers by Erdogan and Bristol to take a 9-3 lead at the 7:14 mark. The Aggies though, responded back a minute later, with five straight of their own to trim the deficit to 9-8. Both teams traded points down the stretch, but a three by the Aggies gave the hosts a slim 15-14 edge heading into the second.
North Carolina A&T got off to a quick start in the second, tallying seven straight points to extend its lead to 22-14 at the 8:04 mark. The Huskies were held without a basket until Erdogan tallied a three with 5:49 to go in the frame to trim the deficit to 25-17. The Aggies shot 46.7% overall (7-of-15) in the stanza, and 50% (3-of-6) to take a 34-28 advantage into halftime.
The hosts continued to push the pace in the third, extending their lead to 39-30 at the 7:34 mark. A jumper by Erdogan trimmed the deficit back down to single digits at 41-33, but the Aggies responded right back. The hosts shot 50% (5-of-10) overall and took a 52-39 lead into the fourth.
The Aggies notched five straight points to start the fourth and continued to remain in front. A three by
Oralye Kiefer trimmed the North Carolina A&T advantage to 57-42 at the 7:17 mark, but the Aggies responded back with a jumper. It was all North Carolina down the stretch, as the hosts went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach for good.
The Huskies will host Monmouth in its Boston Public Schools Game on Friday, February 9. Tip-off is slated for noon on NESN & FloHoops.
