BOSTON – With just eight conference games remaining, the Northeastern men's basketball team will look to get back on track this weekend when the Huskies travel to Campbell for a Thursday night matchup in Buies Creek, N.C. Northeastern will then return home for a 1 p.m. tip-off against Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena. Both games will be streamed on FloHoops, while Saturday's game will also air on NESN+.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS
Thursday will mark the first-ever meeting between Northeastern and Campbell, which officially joined the CAA in July 2023. The Huskies are making their third trip to North Carolina this season, going 3-2 including victories vs. East Carolina and Georgia Southern at the TowneBank Holiday Classic, and at Elon in January.
Â
Saturday's game against the Hawks, meanwhile, will be the second meeting of the year between the teams. Monmouth won the earlier meeting in West Long Branch, 81-62, with
Harold Woods recording a team-high 16 points and four assists for the Huskies.
Â
2. AN ALL-AROUND THREAT
Graduate student
Chris Doherty has done it all for the Huskies this season, leading the Huskies in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounds (7.0 rpg), assists (2.7 apg). He has seven double-doubles this season, good for second in the CAA and 54th in the country, and is second in the league in field goal percentage (52.7%).
Â
Doherty has reached 20+ points five times, including a career-high 27-point, 13-rebound effort on Jan. 27 against William & Mary. Doherty is currently 50th on Northeastern's all-time scoring list with 931 points as a Husky, and is closing in on 1000 career points (941) after playing two seasons at Notre Dame.
Â
3. AT THE LINE
As a team, Northeastern is sixth in the CAA making an average of 13.9 free throws per game, and 44th in the nation and second in the CAA in free throw percentage (75.5%). They are the only team in the NCAA this season to make at least 40 free throws in a game and attempt more than 50, both of which were school records earlier this season against Old Dominion.
Â
Northeastern was a perfect 12-of-12 from the line on Jan. 8 at Monmouth, the first time NU shot 100% from the line (min. 10 attempts) since Feb. 1, 2020 vs. Elon (19-of-19).Â
