Huskies Complete Strong Weekend Of Racing At The IRA Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Northeastern men's rowing team wrapped up the final day of the IRA Invitational on Saturday afternoon, battling in high-level six lane races against top 10 crews in Harvard, Stanford, Washington, Yale, and Brown.
 
Stroked by Alexander Abuhoff, the first varsity got off to a level start with all crews. Northeastern led Brown for the majority of the race and kept pace with Yale. The Bulldogs and Bears, though, began to pull ahead of the Huskies down the stretch, crossing the line in third and fourth ahead of the Huskies at 5:29.83, and 5:30.40 respectively. Northeastern finished in fifth ahead of Stanford (5:38.79) with a time of 5:32.20.
 
Stroked by Aidan Murphy, the second varsity got off to a clean start. Yale, Brown, and Harvard battled for second through fourth, with the Huskies making a stellar sprint in the last 10 strokes of the race. In a tight finish, Northeastern finished with a time of 5:40.41, just over a second behind Yale (5:39.17), and ahead of Harvard (5:41.18)

Stroked by Ned Botherway, the third varsity got off to an even start with the five strong crews. Washington, Harvard, and Brown began to fight for the top three spots, with Washington remaining in first throughout the entire race. Finishing behind Washington was Brown followed by Harvard, then Yale (5:41.83), and Northeastern finished at 5:49.59.
 
The Huskies will face Boston University for the Arlett Cup in their first home race of the season on Saturday, April 6.
