Huskies Set For CAA Second Round Vs. Stony Brook

BOSTON – It's tournament time, and the Northeastern men's basketball team will head to Washington, D.C. this weekend for the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Huskies, the No. 10 seed in the tournament, will take on No. 7 Stony Brook on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The game will be streamed on FloHoops, with the winner advancing to take on No. 2 Drexel on Sunday.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

1. NORTHEASTERN IN THE CAA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Huskies are making their 19th appearance in the CAA Championship, and is 21-16 all-time in the conference tournament. NU is looking to advance to the CAA Quarterfinal for the 16th time in team history.

Northeastern has won two CAA championships in 2015 and 2019, while head coach Bill Coen is 19-15 in the conference tournament during his 17 years at Northeastern. He is the winningest coach in CAA Championship history.

2. SERIES HISTORY WITH STONY BROOK
The Huskies and Seawolves will square off for the third time this season, and 18th time in series history. Stony Brook owns a 9-8 edge in the all-time series, including victories in both meetings this season.

Masai Troutman averaged 12.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and shot 41% from the field against Stony Brook this season, while Chris Doherty had 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting in the January 4 matchup before missing the February 3 contest with a lower body injury.

3. AN ALL-AROUND THREAT
Chris Doherty has done it all for the Huskies this season, leading the Huskies in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounds (6.9 rpg) and second in assists (2.3 apg). He is also second in the league in field goal percentage (52.7%), and could become the first Husky since Chaisson Allen (2010-11) to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists.

His nine double-doubles, meanwhile, are good for second in the CAA, 56th in the country, and the most for a Husky since Scott Eatherton in 2013-14. Doherty has reached 20+ points six times this season, including a career-high 27-point, 13-rebound effort on Jan. 27 against William & Mary.

Doherty is currently 35th on Northeastern's all-time scoring list with 1046 points as a Husky, and reached 1000 career points on Feb. 22 vs. Elon.
