Abigail Hassman broke her own outdoor mile record by running a 4:40.40 at the Providence Friar Invitational to highlight a three-meet day for the Northeastern track & field team. The Huskies began their weekend at the UConn Northeast Challenge and graduate student
Kerem Ayhan ran at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE
- Freshman Catherine Sargent flung her discus 42.77m, entering the All-Time Outdoor Top Ten at No. 10 with her mark.
- Junior Diego Sanabria finished sixth in the javelin with a 55.33m throw.
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
- Ayhan finished 47th in a field of 120 of the top 800m runners in the country with his 1:49.95 mark.
PROVIDENCE FRIAR INVITATIONAL
- Junior Nicole Dunbury finished fourth in the women's 800m, crossing the line at 2:09.01 for a new personal best and tying the fourth-best time in program history.
- Fifth year Sarah Petersen followed that with a 12th-place finish at 2:14.29 and junior Lucy Abdow was right behind her at 13th in 2:14.33.
- Senior Pierre Sylvain won his heat of the men's 800m and raced to a 1:51.11 finish, taking second overall.
- On top of Hassman's mile performance, senior Ava Duggan finished third with a time of 4:46.83, an exact duplicate of her personal best set at the same meet a year ago, and classmate Azza Borovicka-Swanson came in seventh with a 4:54.11 time, moving into fourth on the All-Time Top Ten List. In the same event, freshman Keira Gamily ran a collegiate-best 5:06.46 to move into eighth on the All-Time Top Ten list, finishing second in her heat.
- On the men's side, sophomore Patrick Cantlon took third on the All-Time Top Ten List with his 4:02.81 time, while senior Tyler Brogan finished at 4:05.57, improving his personal best and moving to fifth all-time. Senior James Pothier moved into ninth on the list with a 4:08.63 time.
- Senior Kyle Sarney finished second in the men's 3000m steeplechase with an 8:59.79 time and classmate Patrick Mullen took 10th on the All-Time Top Ten list with a 9:10.94 mark.
- The women's 3000m saw junior Vivian McMahon move into fourth all-time with her 9:53.75 mark.
- Graduate student Isa Meyers got into sixth on the 5000m All-Time Top Ten List after taking second in the race with a 16:46.72 time.
The Huskies will continue with the UConn Northeast Challenge Saturday, April 13.
