BROOKLINE, Mass. – In the series finale between the two clubs, Northeastern (28-11, 10-5 CAA) fell to UNCW (26-14, 12-3 CAA) by a score of 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
The Seahawks got an early 2-1 lead which held up until they extended the lead in the seventh, and the Husky bats were unable to answer in time, allowing UNCW to take the regular season series 2-1.
- The Seahawks opened the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run homer to right field.
- Northeastern got a run back in the bottom of the third after two-out walks to Luke Beckstein and Mike Sirota set up Tyler MacGregor for the RBI double, scoring Beckstein to make it 2-1.
- Both pitching staffs settled in and moved quickly through the middle innings, allowing just three total hits from the third through the sixth.
- The Seahawks extended their lead in the seventh, getting the lead off man on base via HBP and hitting him home with a triple, followed by a sac-fly to lead 4-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth, it was Mike Sirota belting a solo shot deep to center field to cut into the deficit, 4-2.
- The Seahawks added another insurance run in the top of the ninth on a sac-fly, to lead 5-2.
- In the bottom of the ninth, the Huskies got runners on first and third thanks to a lead off walk to Harrison Feinberg and a deep single through the right side by Carmelo Musacchia. Despite Feinberg scoring on a wild pitch, two quick strikeouts and a fly out ended the game with the tying run at the plate.
- Starter Wyatt Scotti was saddled with the loss, allowing one earned run on three hits through four innings of work.
- NU drops just its second weekend series of the season, having won every weekend series since opening weekend at Arizona.
- It's Northeastern's first CAA series loss of the season, and first series loss at Friedman Diamond since the 2022 season.
The Huskies will be back in action on Friday, April 26 at Friedman Diamond kicking off a three-game series with Elon. Friday's game has a 2 p.m. start time on NESN and FloBaseball.
