BOSTON – Racing in a tough headwind on the Charles, the Northeastern men's rowing team raced in its final dual race of the spring season, giving No. 1 Harvard all it can handle, falling by 2.5 seconds for the Smith Cup on Wednesday morning.

Alexander Abuhoff, the Huskies got off to a quick start against the Crimson. Northeastern led by four seats through the first 500 meters, and extended the advantage to five into the second half of the race. Northeastern held onto the lead until 750 meters to go until Harvard began to make a move in the final stretch. The Crimson pulled ahead by six seats, and crossed the line at 6:03.9. The Huskies finished at 6:06.4. Harvard has now won the Smith Cup for a 25
th consecutive year, as the Huskies last came out on top over the Crimson in 1997.

Victor El Kholti, Northeastern's second varsity eight got off to a level start against Harvard. The Crimson began to pull ahead by a few seats, but the Huskies kept Harvard close throughout the race until the final 500 meters. The Crimson finished at 6:06.8, and the Huskies crossed the line at 6:11.9.
Northeastern's third varsity got off to a clean start with the Crimson, but Harvard though, took a few seat advantage in the first half of the race, and then extended the lead in the final 500 meters. The Crimson crossed the line first at 6:13.7, and Northeastern finished at 6:21.3.
The Huskies' fourth varsity, stroked by
Quinten Cohen, closed the morning in style with a win after a strong comeback in the second half of their race. Northeastern won by a length, crossing the line ahead of the Crimson at 6:35.2. The victory marked Northeastern's first dual win against Harvard since 2018.
The Huskies will next race at Eastern Sprints in Worcester on Sunday, May 19.
