BROOKLINE, Mass. – In a Friday double header, the Northeastern Huskies (37-15, 17-9 CAA) grabbed two wins against the Stony Brook Seawolves (24-27, 12-14 CAA) winning game one by a score of 6-4, and taking game two 11-0.
The Huskies and Seawolves battled in a back and forth game one where the Huskies finally took the lead for good in the seventh on RBI base hits from
Mike Sirota and
Tyler MacGregor, and a save from
Jack Beauchesne got the job done. In game two the Huskies put up five runs in the first and second innings to lead 10-0 early in the game.
Game 1 – Northeastern 6, Stony Brook 4
- Stony Brook struck early in game one, plating two runs on two hits, with a sac-fly and RBI ground out doing the damage.
- In the bottom of the first, the Huskies responded with three hits of their own to tie the game back up. It started with back to back doubles from Mike Sirota and Tyler MacGregor, to put the Huskies on the board.
- MacGregor was scored by an RBI single from Alex Lane, tying the game at 2-2.
- In the third it was Cam Maldonado reaching on an infield single, and then taking first to third on a stolen base and throwing error by the catcher. He would score on a sacrifice fly by Luke Beckstein, to give the Huskies their first lead of the day, 3-2.
- In the top of the fifth, the Seawolves tied the game back up with a one-out solo home run to left.
- The Huskies got that run back in the bottom of the fifth, after a leadoff single by Cam Maldonado – he was advanced to second on a ground out by Beckstein and scored on an RBI single from Sirota for the 4-3 lead.
- With two outs in the top of the seventh, Stony Brook got a run back on a throwing error to first that tied the game back up at 4-4.
- Northeastern responded in the bottom of the seventh after Cam Maldonado reached on a walk, stole second, stole third, and then scored on another RBI single from Mike Sirota for the 5-4 lead.
- Tyler MacGregor added some insurance in the seventh – after Sirota stole second and took third on the overthrow, MacGregor lined a tough fly ball into center that dropped to score Sirota.
- Wyatt Scotti gave the Huskies six strong innings in his start, leaving with a one-run lead after allowing just three runs on six hits. That lead was relinquished in the seventh, giving Scotti the no-decision.
- Out of the bullpen Cooper McGrath couldn't keep the original lead, but earned his third win of the season as the Huskies took the lead for good in the seventh. He worked two full innings allowing just one unearned run on one hit.
- Working a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save was Jack Beauchesne, earning his fifth save of the season.
Game 2 – Northeastern 11, Stony Brook 0
- Northeastern hung a crooked number in the bottom of the first inning for an early 5-0 lead. It began with back to back base hits for Luke Beckstein (double) and Mike Sirota (single) to score the first run of the ball game.
- The Huskies got a third straight hit to start the game out of Tyler MacGregor, who doubled down the left field line to put Sirota on third. Sirota would go on to score on a wild pitch.
- MacGregor ran home on an RBI from Jack Doyle, who reached first on a throwing error, and he was followed by Jack Goodman who hammered a two-run home run over the left field netting to lead 5-0.
- The Huskies put up another crooked number in the second, scoring five more runs on six hits. It began with Luke Beckstein's 34th HBP of the year, and he moved to third on a Mike Sirota ground-rule double.
- A Tyler MacGregor single up the middle scored both Sirota and Beckstein for the 7-0 lead.
- RBI singles from Jack Goodman (2 RBI) and Matt Brinker (1 RBI) scored the final three runs of the inning for the 10-0 lead.
- NU added an 11th run in the fourth on an RBI double down the left field line by Matt Brinker, scoring Jack Doyle.
- Jack Bowery got the start in game two, working five scoreless innings allowing just three hits, no walks, and striking out four.
- Four bullpen pitchers helped continue the shutout, with Brett Dunham (0H, 0BB, 2K), Nick Coniglio (2H, 0BB), James Morice (0H, 0BB) and Carson Walsh (1H, 0BB) each working a full inning.
- The Huskies now have nine games this season tallying 15 or more hits – all of them were wins.
- The game two win was Northeastern's fourth shutout win of the season. The other shutouts this season were against Georgia Tech (7-0), Sacred Heart (10-0), and Boston College (7-0).
